NEW SERVICE / LAUNCHING OCTOBER 2026
Digital Waste Tracking. £99 a month. MukAway free.
Since 1 October 2026, every permitted waste site in England and Wales must report every load it takes in to Defra within two working days. We built a system that does it for you, and it comes with the MukAway platform included.

WHAT HAS CHANGED
Two working days. Every load. No exceptions.
The law changed on 1 October 2026. If you hold a permit or licence to receive waste in England or Wales, you must now report every load to Defra’s Digital Waste Tracking service within two working days, counting from the day after it arrives. Take a load at 9am on Monday and it must be submitted by 11.59pm on Wednesday. Miss the window and you face a £1,000 fixed penalty, or worse if it goes further. Waste carriers, brokers and dealers are next.
How it works
01
Log it at the gate. Carrier, waste description, waste code and weight, on a phone, tablet or the weighbridge PC.
02
We check it. The waste codes are built in by our technical team, so a wrong code is flagged before it goes anywhere.
03
It goes to Defra. Submitted inside the two-day window, with the Defra reference number stored against the load.
Every load, every code, every reference in one place, ready when the Environment Agency calls.
Why choose MukAway
£99 a month on a 12-month agreement. Built around the waste codes you use every day, with the two-day rule handled and every Defra reference stored in one searchable audit trail. Your MukAway subscription is included: material exchange, merchant product sale, the direct haulage link and the ESG dashboard.
£99 a month. One price, no surprises.
Loads go to Defra on time, with warnings before anything gets near the deadline.
Carriers, brokers and dealers join the scheme next. We are building for it now.
One audit trail. Every load and every Defra reference, searchable, in one place.
Compliance. We track every single bit of information.
We’re here to help 24/7 when you need us. We don’t Muk about.
Who it is for
Skip hire, recycling yards and transfer stations, soil treatment centres, quarries and inert landfill, aggregate recyclers, demolition yards, scrap metal and vehicle dismantlers, wood, tyre and plasterboard recyclers, composting and anaerobic digestion, and councils. If your permit lets you receive waste, it is for you.
Calling all skip hire
You run the wagons. You run the yard. Now Defra wants every load through your gate logged and submitted inside two days. We will take care of it for £99 a month. And the soil and hardcore stacking up in your yard? Put it on MukAway, where more than 1,000 sites are moving material, and put it to work. The subscription is free.

More than 1,000 sites. 123 companies. 1.4 million cubic metres of material on the platform. GRAHAM, Lovell, Barratt Redrow and Wain Homes already use MukAway. National champion at the NCE Awards, and shortlisted three times at the TechFest Awards.
Questions
Do I need this?
If you hold an environmental permit or licence to receive waste in England or Wales, yes. Household waste recycling centres taking waste from residents are exempt. Not sure? Ask us and we will tell you straight.
When can I start?
We launch this October. Register now and you will be among the first onboarded. Until you are set up, report through Defra’s own Report receipt of waste service so you stay legal. We will move you across.
How much is it?
£99 a month on a 12-month agreement.
Does it work with Defra’s system?
Yes. MA Digital Tracking is built to Defra’s Digital Waste Tracking rules and submits straight to its service.
What about Scotland and Northern Ireland?
Their start dates come later. Register and we will keep you posted.
In fact, the four countries’ timetable is this:
