MukAway launches Digital Tracking ahead of major waste reporting changes

Thousands of waste receiving sites across England and Wales are facing a significant change from 1 October 2026 as new mandatory reporting requirements come into force.

Under the new rules, any site holding a permit to receive waste must report every load received to Defra within two working days. Failure to comply could result in a fixed penalty of £1,000 per missed submission.

For many operators, particularly smaller recycling facilities, skip hire businesses, soil treatment centres and waste transfer stations, the change introduces a substantial new administrative burden.

Recognising the challenge facing the sector, MukAway is launching MA Digital Tracking, a new tool designed to simplify compliance and reduce paperwork.

The platform allows waste receiving sites to log loads at the gate, automatically check waste codes and submit the required information within the statutory reporting window. The service is available from £99 per month and has been developed to help operators adapt quickly to the new regulatory landscape.

The launch represents another step in MukAway's mission to digitise material management and waste movements across the construction, infrastructure and environmental sectors.

Businesses already using MukAway's wider platform will receive Digital Tracking as part of their existing subscription. Alongside compliance reporting, users can access MukAway's material exchange marketplace, merchant product sales functionality, direct haulage links and ESG dashboard.

The new requirements apply to all permitted waste receiving sites in England and Wales from 1 October 2026, before being extended to Scotland and Northern Ireland from 1 January 2027.
